So I might be asking the obvious here but here it goes anyway.  I just R/S a player who didn't take it too well.  The good news (at least I think) is that he has a WE of 1.  With that said, I'm guessing there really shouldn't be too much, if any of a negative impact as a result since his WE can't take much more of a hit.  Anyone have experience doing this same thing before?

Just curious, but why R/S this guy? He won't be any better in 5 seasons than he will be in 4 or 3 or 2.  A player with a 1 WE is basically 'what you see is what you get' for his career. Any gains he makes during the season will be lost during the offseason.

Wasn't aware of that Weena...........maybe one of the reasons why I get outcoached every year in the NT.  Thanks for the perspective.

I would also wonder if he will transfer at the end of the season. You can't see the huge WE drop since he started at 1. If you want to keep him then you have to consider him transferring. You could also just not play him and after each game try another redshirt. Alot of times they will take it when they aren't playing anyway.

Red shirting a 1 WE guy would help his IQ by giving him 5 years. That being said, he would be the last scholarship player I would try to redshirt.

as a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to have a low end WE number where you would never (or rarely) recruit a player with a WE below "x" number.  With the old engine, that number for me was usually around 30.  With the engine change I found 20 was a better number (anything below 20 and players did not max out core categories), but now that player growth is being slowed again, I've switched back to 30 or so.  Until we cycle through 4 seasons, I really won't know if a player is reaching his full potential at that WE, however.

His ratings are pretty solid for a D3 guard (he was a d2 prospect i believe).  However, i've yet to see a 1st yr. FR have a huge impact and this guy has the potential to be a super performer in D3 so my thought was to get a "better 4 years" out of him as opposed to wasting that 1st year.  However, I do see the points some of you have made regarding he won't improve much regardless.  Ironically, with that 1 WE rating, he still had several categories where FSS predicted a huge area of improvement.

That's not a huge improvement prediction, it's huge potential - ie he's capable of being that good, but not necessarily going to improve that much.  If you gave him 0 practice minutes in a high potential area it would still drop...
