Spring Training Invitation Contracts Topic

When you invite a player to spring training for tryouts, how does it work?  I'm looking at a FA who is willing to come to camp on a tryout contract...it looks like I have to assign him to the ML team.  My question for that is, will my franchise be paying his ML salary for the whole season if I release him?  Because the contract is for invite only to spring training.
Looking for a little guidance from folks who have done this in the past.  The guy I'm looking at would be a great pitch hitter, hence the invite to see if his numbers will translate during spring training, but I'm not sure if I'm willing just yet to pay his salary, even if it's the ML minimum for the entire season.

Has anyone had much luck with spring training FA invites only?

Leave him unassigned until you decide whether you want to keep him. He will be in your lineup/rotation screen for spring training despite not being assigned.

No real luck here with those guys though.

If you don't assign him before Spring Training is over he'll be released and you won't owe him anything.

This is the player I'm talking about.....

As you can see, he's long in the tooth, and rating are going down.....but his bat still seems to be good, especially in a pitch hit role.  I didn't assign him, thanks for the help with that.  He was on the spring training roster as indicated.  I know you can't judge a whole lot by spring training stats, but if I can get a good look at him, he could prove to be an asset off the bench.
