I understand about getting burned out on HD. I once had around 15 teams, and I went down to zero. Came back for a while to see if much had changed, and left again. No matter what you think about the engine, new recruits, rankings, ineligibles, or anything else in HD, there is something there that's addictive. And I can tell you, and others could attest (hello, daalter) that you miss it when it's gone. You miss developing a recruiting strategy, building a schedule, and making little game planning tweaks. You miss it in the middle of the night, when you wake up because your internal clock is now programmed to do so, and you realize there are no scores to check. No recruiting moves to make. No next season to look forward to.
Eventually this wanes. But then, after some time completely away from HD, someone will ask you to recruit for them, and you'll see the recruits are really different, and think, "I bet this would be a new challenge", and you check on your old teams, and start reading world threads and coaches corners, and it pulls you back in. And though you once said you were done for good, you see an open team you like (maybe it's your old team, now in disrepair and seemingly begging you to return it to past glory). And you cash in some old credits and put in your credit card number. To paraphrase W.P. Kinsella, you'll pass over the money without even thinking about it, for it is money you have and peace you lack... this game, it's part of our past. It reminds us of all that was once good and could be again.
