Assigning late-signees to a roster? Topic

I had prospect money left the last week of the season, so I just signed a pile of internationals with decent defensive ratings to be career minor-leaguers.

Since most of my MiL teams are done playing already, is there any requirement to assign them to a roster at this point, or can I just wait until next season?

I could find a few stiffs to cut, but figure I'll have a bunch of openings when guys become FAs.

I always assign them. If I don't have room in LoA, I'll promote the guys who are definately moving up and take advantage of the Inactive roster spots.

I believe if they are unassigned at rollover, they get released.

Sounds like I'll be cutting some inactives and MiL FAs to be.
Thanks for the feedback.

This isn't always true.  I had a guy that I DFA'd late in the season one year.  I put him on revokable waivers and I couldn't manage to work out a trade with the team that claimed him.  As a result, he went into rollover unassigned.  After rollover he was still on my team.

Was he still under contract? That, I think, would be the difference there.

MiL players work on 1-year deals that auto-renew if they are on a roster, but ML players can have multi-year deals which would prevent the release while being unassigned.
