Dev chat (5/4/10):
When a player hits the hard ceiling for a skill, will any practice minutes need to be spent in order to maintain that level? (jetsons - All-Star - 2:12 PM)
There is a minimum number of minutes to maintain each rating even after capping out. That number is 7 minutes for everything but Perimeter and Low Post which are 3 minutes each.
keep in mind this is a technically correct answer, but realistically, it is incorrect.
one of the HD communities biggest weaknesses, at least from my observation since i started 3 years ago (oh my, is it really that long now? wow, it is...), is that they don't read CS responses with the proper lense. and also they extrapolate the answers, to take away stuff that was never intended. CS often answers questions 2 ways that mislead a lot of people - they give a technically correct answer, that is not the info anyone was looking for, or, they give a dumbed down answer to try to answer what they think is a simple question, which then misleads everybody who is looking to pull a lot of information out of there (for example, the way CS has described tempo, tarek said basically uptempo just effects the time of possession, not the other stats, like fg%, fouls, etc - what we have since learned is this is only true on average, but in specific cases, it is very very far from the truth). not to say CS never gives good answers but plenty fall into those other 2 categories, too.
anyway, the above answer falls into that first category. technically, when capped, practicing 0 minutes might result in a .05 per season decrease. techincally, to stop this decrease, you might need as much as 7 minutes. but realistically, nobody gives a crap about a .05 per season decrease. so realistically, the answer is, you need 0 minutes to maintain a capped category.
