August 28 release - engine changes Topic

To get back to subject.

So far I like the new release LESS than the version we were using earlier. The intent may be to lessen variance but I see more results that make less sense now than before.

It's my opinion that it's not the results pple take issue with, it's the box score that attempts to justify the result.   Fix the box score, and make everyone happy.

I've been wondering, how do these changes interact with the halftime adjustments - a team misses their three point attempts in the first half, therefore the automatic adjustment by the other team (if activated) moves them to a minus setting on defense - and THEN the adjusted randomness makes the opponents into better three point shooters.....?

am I missing something?

is this too small to matter?
I am not sure you would adjust to a minus if the team missed their 3 pointers.  I would think you would adjust to a minus if they did not take many 3 pointers.

If they are taking and missing 3 pointers and if you adjusted to not cover the perimeter, then the shots would become uncontested and you would expect them to make those shots, right?

I would think you would only shift to a minus defense if the team is not taking many 3 point (or other perimeter) shots, not if they are missing them.  If they are taking and missing those shots, then you are playing the correct defense.

Also, I don't think there is an emphasis on the half for the "variance" adjustments.  If you miss 5 shots in a row, the coaching staff grabs you at the TV timeout and tells you what you are doing wrong and you adjust and start doing better .. that is what I think the variance adjustments would be trying to simulate.
