SF/PF Hybrid Guys Topic

I read something about Butler today and it got me thinking about Gordon Hayward and how to get a Hayward-like player in HD.  Hayward was the ultimate mismatch because he could rebound with the traditional Power Forwards but on the offensive end he could dominate these big guys with his ability to play on the perimeter.  In HD I've seen a lot of guys who could be potentially be like Hayward that are listed at SFs, but I haven't seen anybody playing an "under-sized" PF.  I seem to recall seble saying it'd be more possible to have perimeter oriented big guy and I've been seeing guys who would be able to be like Hayward (I recruited one, but he's a suckish frosh and it'll take him a while to get to the point where I'll play him at PF) so has anyone tried playing a perimeter oriented PF?  With success?

Sam McGowan on my St. Johns team in Tark imo is a good SF/PF hybrid. He isn't a perimeter player, but he will be a slasher/scorer and very good rebounder as well, once I get his ratings up.

My RS Sophomore small forward is a player that I have contemplated playing like this. So far I have kept him playing at the SF position but he has the tools to play any position in my opinion. His Sp/Pe/Bh/Pa is good enough for him to be effective on the perimeter at D3. And his Ath/Reb/Lp are more than enough for him to bang in the post, especially his LP. I may experiment with him a few times this season in games that should be blowouts. Maybe give him a game at SG and then one at PF.

I think you'll see them much more often at the higher levels of DI, although I signed a couple of guys @ GW this season who may grow into the type of player you are talking about.  I won an NT starting a PF with the following ratings @ SF.  Alas, he jumped to the NBA after his FR season, so I can't link to his ratings, but they were:

ATH 95
SPD 54
REB 82
DE 89
BLK 74
LP 88
PE 76
BH 52
P 43

I've got something like a very very very poor man's Hayward I guess.

Edward Davis

He's nothing special, but he shoots OK for DIII from outside (49 per) and has had some modest success (37% from 3 this season in 20 games). His speed is poor, so keeps him from being a great defender, but his ath (72) and shot blocking (59) have helped him average a block per game in only 17.9 minutes per.

Ryan Tooley is much much better and can shoot the rock too, but could easily play the 4 in my opinion. I just have had the depth at the 4/5 this season, and not at the 3, so I've used him more or less exclusively at the SF.
