I often wonder what drives them and everything I read says what the guy says is true. Example of why they get so tiresome to me: I offered a guy an "invite only" and the reply was, "My client likes your offer the best, but we are waiting to hear back from other teams. We'll be in touch."
This was an abandoned team that I picked up in the last month of the season last year. Is this guy looking for a team with a better record? I thought a lot of the decision was based on the team he has the best chance of making it with. If he does sign, and I don't like his ST performance I can just drop him any time up to season start, right?

While positional depth is a factor, he's hoping for a guaranteed contract, just like a real player would.

Yes, you have to add him to your roster so dropping him is always an option.
