Division II Recruiting Division I Player Topic

Let me paint the scenario.

Recruiting a Division ONE player to a Division TWO school.  Of course he is a lower division one player.  After spending 2k in phone calls, letters and scouting and being told "You're a backup option if my first choice doesn't work out" I can't even get the guy to allow a home visit or come to the campus.  YET, he is considering TWO other Division Two schools.  Neither Division Two school has a higher rating than my A-, though one is equal to it.  There wasn't any real distance advantages and the player did not list either school as a favorite.  This actually happened with 2 different players.

So, this is my question, do I have to spend X amount in phone calls, letters, and scouting just to be able to get a home visit / campus visit in?  Do I chalk this up to an aboration?  What?   I wouldn't have an issue if either player wasn't allowing themselves to be recruited by other Div II teams.

This is called a pulldown.  Search the forums for a lot of advice on how to execute it.

First of all, be aware that all A- are not made equal.  There may be a recruit or 2 out there that will talk to another A- but not to you.  Secondly, if you get the backup option response then yes, it means that if you spend enough on scouting trips the player will consider you and then accept HV and CV.  If he is already considering 2 other D2 schools he'll probably cost a LOT, so he better be good if you want to still try to go after him.

Thanks all.   Hadn't searched under a pull down topic.  Will do.
