Can you go from D3 to D1? Topic

I recently came back to the game after an unsuccessful run a while back.  I have 2 D2 teams and just got a D3 team in Tark.  Eventually I want to have 1 or 2 D1 teams.  The D3 team only has 1 other human coach, so I should be able to build a pretty successful program.  My question is, can a successful D3 coach move right up to D1, or am I better off leaving for the 1st D2 job I can get and then see which D2 team gets me to D1 fastest?

If you have a run of four NTs and you go to the Elite Eight or better that 4th year, I believe you are qualified for low d1 jobs.  After 8 seasons at d3 I was qualified for C- jobs.

You don't even need Elite 8.  The coach of the most consistent program in Knight (mbalding, Moravian) just jumped to D1 a few seasons ago after a 2nd-round loss following an E8 following a number of consecutive NT appearances.  Went to the Ivy League.

Thanks.  I'll see how the team develops before I make any quick moves.

I was surprised to see mb had jumped...used to be in that conference with him for quite a while (at LaRoche)
He had a long time at D III and like 6 or 7 NTs though, so I'm not sure he is a good barometer to judge your own D I marketability.

We went through this a while ago and figured it takes a LOT of DIII wins (at least 400 if i am remembering correctly).  we had input from several DIII long time coaches (including mb) who were looking at this.  I was not qualified for DI (in Knight) until approx season 20

That must have been a long time ago because I was qualified after 104 wins.

Edit: I actually had two seasons at two other schools so my total was 142 not 104, but that is still way below the 400.
