Jobs Question - Quickest Path to Moving Up Topic

I have a D3 team and am looking to jump to D1. I've been at my D3 school for 30+ seasons (A+ loyalty and reputation) and qualify for a bunch of D and D- schools at D1... so it's pretty slim pickings in terms of quality.

My longterm goal is to climb the ladder and eventually end up at a top BCS school.

Which of the following approaches offers the quickest route:

1.) Take the highest baseline prestige school I qualify for, regardless of current talent, and build it up over the next few seasons, before moving on. I currently qualify for some schools with "C" baseline prestige, but none of them will be immediate post-season contenders.

2.) Take a D- baseline school that is loaded with seniors in a sim-dominated conference, win 20+ games in Season 1, make the NT (hopefully), and try to move up to a better school in Season 2.

I guess my big question is whether option 2 is feasible. Will I be able to move to a better school after just one D1 season? I wouldn't want to get stuck at a D- baseline school needing to recruit 8-10 guys in Season 2.

I always have though that choice 1 was better.  I'm sure other people think choice 2 is

No way should you move up from a D- after just one season...in fact, you would pretty much only be able to move to a D at best.

My advice is to find a D/D+ type that has a large SO class.  Once they are SRs, you should have a team that can win big in a lower-tier conference.

You're probably going to be stuck at whatever school you have for a couple of seasons at the very least.  I suggest, go for option 1, preferably with a bunch of open scholarships.

Your loyalty will be sufficient to jump to another D1 school after your first year in D1, but the quality of that second D1 school is what's in question, similar to what abita said.

Jump to D1. Make the postseason. Do not renew. Wait one season and move up to a higher prestige D1 school. Make the postseason. Do not renew. You will be qualified for a BCS school. Yes you can still do this.

what about option 3, pick up a top of the line d2 program, put together 2 good seasons, and then get a quality d1 opening?

before the new engine came out, i would say jump right to d1. but, especially if you are new to d1, picking up a d prestige school might be a life sentence.

I thought about that (and have now missed the window for it... all the obviously good D2 jobs are gone now), but at my current D2 school in another world, I had a 3-year span where I made an elite 8, Final 4 and championship game, and the best jobs I was qualified at D1 were C-minus. The odds of duplicating that sort of run are hardly guaranteed, and failing to have that kind of success would probably relegate me to being maybe in the D+ range for available jobs? I didn't think it was worth it to go through 2 seasons at D2 to pick up only a third or two-thirds of a letter grade in starting prestige.

hmm, i am surprised you could only get c- jobs on that resume. was that a world where you had very few wins? if so, that was probably it. considering the length of time you have played in the world you are in, and the fact that you can already get a D job, i would expect with an e8, f4, and title game would put you into more like a c+ type job.

At that time, it was my 8th season in the world (7th at D2), and I had a total of 203 wins (177 at D2).
