question about free agents Topic

I'm a rookie and am wondering:

if no one offers a free agent anything, will he sign for a low ball offer if I gave him one?  Or will he just "disappear" into the thin cloud at the end of the free agent period?

The longer he sits unsigned, the more his demands drop but you can't sign him unless you meet his demands at that time

and the longer he sits out there, the more his ratings drop

Ratings will not drop immediately.   It's either when ST begins or ends.  Sign him on the last FA cycle and they will not drop.

if a FA wants $5mil for 2 years, can I offer him $10 mil for one year?

If you are going that route you're better off still offering two years but paying the majority of the contract in bonus money. You could offer the minimum in year 2 and pay most of the contract upfront.

If the guy goes unsigned, he'll drop his # of years requirement as well as his asking price.

Probably.  I've done it with 4-year contracts into 2-year contracts with a Mutual Option for the same total money as the initial 4-year demands.  Same idea.

Yes.
