How will Hernandez hit? Topic

Before this past season, I posted a question about which of these guys I should promote to my MLB LF job.   JosiasTerrero or WilfredoHernandez ?

Some guys suggested Terrero, others Hernandez and some JuanCabrera who had a great AAA year hitting .361.

I loved his good power/great speed combo so I went with Terrero and he responded with a Rookie of the Year/Gold Glove season.  He hit .300 with 33 homers and 75 x-base hits.  Stikes out a ton, but has good power, great speed and a developing glove.  He projects to 82-82 range/glove but I don't think he'll quite get there.

Anyway, my 1B in MLB hit .314 with a .400+ OBP, but his 15 HR's were a career high (power 48) as were his 40 x-base hits.  And I think he's about to get significantly more expensive through Arb.  I can afford him, but I'm not sure I didn't just get his best season out of him and I wouldn't mind a bit more pop there..

Hernandez with OF defensive #'s would be a great defensive 1B (my current guy isn't) and will start  the year with offensive numbers of 51-81-60-52-81.  He's maxed out at everything but power and eye..but he will eventually reach his 83-87 ceiliings there because he's a 98-100 Make-up guy.

I save $5M or so going with Hernandez.

Anyway...What kind of offensive numbers for a full MLB season would you expect from a 51-81-60-52-81 guy?

.250/.320/.440, or so.

If that.  Guys like that always seem to vary wildly in their performance.  They'll get me hooked with a .280, .340, .450 season and then suck it up for the rest of their career while I try to re-capture the magic.

You're actually right- I actually have a similar guy w/ better vR and eye (53/81/62/69/99) and in his first full season he was great w/ .284/.393/.474

The next 2 seasons have been .225/.346/.416 and .245/.363/.419.  His career line still isn't too bad (.255/.370/.438), but I'll probably just arb him once and then send him to the glue factory.

Agree with deanod on the stats.  Given the choice between Hernandez at ML minimum and Coronado at $5M, I want to know about door #3.

Found this guy in my league....    http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1782233

He's pretty dang comparable to hernandez.  Power is almost identical (1 pt) and  this guy has a 10 pt. Contact advantage, but Hernandez has a 10 pt Eye advantage.  Hernandez has a 7 pt vR advantage...vL is identical.  Pretty dang close.

Over the last 4 year this guy has averaged 30 homers (27,33,33,27) and about .263-.333.485 = .820 OPS

I could live with that for a guy at the minimum!
