I did a search and didn't see anything for this specifically.

Newb question.

The players guide says this:

FRESHMAN 4.0 HS GPA X 10
SOPHMORE 3.6 GPA X10
JUNIOR 3.2 GPA X 10
SR 2.8 GPA X10

Can someone explain to me what that means to my distribution minutes I need to allocate in practice?

I have a sophmore with a 2.3 GPA
and a Junior with a 2.3 GPA

How many practice minutes do I have to give them to keep them eligible?

And the ones with 3.5 GPA or higher...can I allocate zero minutes?

Thanks

Soph: (3.6-2.3)*10, so 13min
Jr: (3.2-2.3)*10 = 9min.

I think that formula is the most conservative approach and will guarantee your players make grade. I generally adjust down as the season progresses.

A good rough estimate is 10 minutes for freshman and 5 minutes for sophomores.  As long as they are real dummies, this will keep them active.  You just have to be willing to adjust at mid-terms.

I run all o's tell mid term then 5-10

Had a frosh last year that I recruited at 2.4. Formula called for 16 mins, I gave 12. Dropped to 1.6 GPA! Had to move to 20 which took him all the way back to 2.9.

when I have a soph with a 3.5, I will generally give him 4 or 5 mins and work down if he does okay

if a soph starts the year with a 2.3 earned as a freshman, I would start him at about 9 as a soph and work down or up as needed

for a junior who comes into that year with a cumulative 2.3, I would start him at 6 or 7

all this assumes that you are not at DI or DII in which case you would want to be sure that the kid isnt a former nonqualifier for whom getting over 2.7 matters

In all honesty I think it is all a crap shoot.  I have given guys 20+ and they fail.  I have given guys with crap GPAs none and they do fine.  I really feel GPA is random, at least to some extent.  Give Frosh 5, foreign frosh 7 and then adjust as the year goes on, but there is no end all be all
