Lack of Recruiting Banter (Phelan) Topic

I was just looking around the conference boards, in case there was anything juicy out there. There was not. The WIS crackdown on target-specific communication has been quite effective.

Between the 11-2pm cycle leading up to the 8pm signing cycle, a review of all DI conference boards yielded the following:
Total comments re: quality/location/availability of area or targeted recruits (non target-specific): 3
re: general recruiting approaches: 4
re: general quality of conference-wide targets: 1
re: "Good luck in recruiting" well wishes: 3
re: general allusions to possible (non-specific) battles: 2
re: specific battles (non-collusion): 1
re: D2 team post: 1
re: SIM recruiting logic: 1
re: Big6 late grabbing of "lesser" recruits from non-Big6 conferences: 2
Total recruiting comments: 18
Total Big6 comments: 8

No judgements. Just an observation of how recruiting banter (good and bad) is a thing of the past.

I just reserve my banter until after I have signed everyone I am going to sign.

I guess i don't think i have anything to brag about yet. I am in a recruiting battle but don't really feel like rubbing it in incase i don't get him.

I'm with bscoresby...I didn't know there was a crackdown. But I've always reserved my opinions until after recruiting was done.

yeah, what r u talking about jskenner? i have no knowledge of a crackdown either, unless by crackdown, you mean when everyone in the office gets down on the floor (to avoid being seen through the windows) and smokes a massive amount of crack. we all know by now that is on the weekly schedule at wis headquarters, so if that is what you are talking about, that is old news buddy ;)

The crackdown jskenner is talking about came maybe 2-3 months ago (I don't exactly remember). It resulted from an alledged episode of 'I won't take guy A if you don't take guy B' collusion type discussions. I am pretty sure no one was disciplined but several letters of warning were issued. The conference in question was full of experienced vets with multiple NT titles and was quite upsetting to those accused. Following that incident, a lot of coaches decided it was better to say nothing and avoid all possibility of misinterpretation. Seble also stated that sitemail was subject to review as well and that if a coach sitemailed another coach asking if that coach was planning to go after player X, or stating that he was planning to go after player Y, that no reply should be given. There is no collusion if it is not a 2-way agreement. Since then the Cone of Silence is generally lowered over the Coaches Corner during recruiting.

That was it, weena.  You nailed it, and it seems to have worked as intended.

I don't see a problem asking another coach in your own conference how hot or cold he/she  is after a recruit that your both targeting as long as it was not discussed prior to both of you going after him ie.(he is considering both teams in the same cycle with no prior knowledge by either coach). Unlike real life, we don't get to see what other teams are at the gym scouting, nor, get feedback from the recruit as to who specifically are interested and still calling. I would sure rather battle another conference than my own. Thats just my thoughts though.

I hear you, jbrewman1. WIS tends to disagree with us. :)
