getting to the FT line Topic

I am curious what some of the experienced coaches look for in players that get to the Ft line.  I am having a hard time figuring out why some players get to the line and others don't.

Spd is the biggest factor imo, ath is a close 2nd. If you have an 80 ath 80 spd sg facing a 50/50 sg, your guy will go the line alot.

ofc, if your opponent has poor iq (especially for the press) its foul and ft city.

if a guy is slower, has poor IQ and is tired then he will foul a ton

I also think one draws more fouls if you take the ball inside than if you shoot from the perimeter - who gets the distro and what you do with three point settings

I see no rhyme or reason I almost always have an iq and speed advantage and sometimes I get beatup badly with fouls.  Its been difficult for me to figure out

LP matters if it's a guard.  They're better scoring in the paint, and more likely to get fouled there.

I actually have a pretty good case study for this one (wish I could hyperlink to them, but my computer is acting strange) :
On my Quincy team, Odion Abdallah vs Gan Xiong
Abdallah has played roughly have of the minutes Xiong has played with significantly less distro, but he has gotten to the line about 20 more times (44 v 63). Why? Xiong is a shooter who is rarely in position to be fouled. His ath spd bh aren't great. He is set to +1.
Abdallah has average speed, but high ath and bh and is set to 0. Just like other high ath/bh guards, he will drive more and get to the line more. In this new engine, a guard with high ath/bh/decent LP, and an A- ft shooter would be a force on the offensive end.

2 seasons ago at Valdosta St in Knight (D II) I had a 90 ath, 90 spd, 70 bh, A- FT with A IQ guard average 35.4 ppg and move from # 16 to #1 on the all time scoring list. He scored about 1000 pts that season, and ended just shy of 2000 for his career. He was NPOY...I've been trying to recruit/recreate him on every one of my teams since.
