I feel that this has been clear for  awhile now, this has been brought to seble's attention many times but he likes it better this way.  This is why I love my Iowa State team, but am very close to dropping my Northern Arizona team.  This is starting to play out at the Big 6 level in Tark, where a couple conferences have multiple vacant teams that no one can move into.

From reading various threads in this forum, there seems to be a lot of coaches who aren't thrilled with the way recruits are now being generated.  I don't like the new way personally, but I've also accepted the fact that this is how Seble wants it to play out, so this is what we're stuck with.

I really haven't voiced my opinion one way or the other until now, but I think that if the recruits aren't fixed (or maybe "adjusted" would be a better word) at the middle/higher levels of D1, we'll all watch the slow (snowballing into an avalanche) death of any conference in D1 that's not the BCS boys.  D2 and D3 will be the place to be and D1 will become the ghost town.  Hope I'm wrong, but I've been starting to see more and more vacancies in mid-major conferences in D1, and have even been seeing a few more Simmy-led BCS teams than normal.  Could be a coincidence, but my gut instinct is that it's the beginning of a trend.  We'll see in a few months I guess when a few more seasons have passed.  The job application process being overhauled could help alleviate some of the problem, but probably not enough.  D1 is dying, D2 is the place to be fellas..........

Div II has always been the place to be. Enough talent to have fun, enough money to recruit nation wide, battle etc, and flexable prestige. With the change to rewards, its a no brainer what division is by far the best. I was thinking of moving up to div I in wooden to play in my brothers conf, but I doubt I will now. I'll either just stick with iba, or hope he drops down.

There is no doubt that D2 is the place to be. But, In the last recruiting cycle I noticed a lot of Poaching by low level mid-major coaches. I've had top 100 recruits at the D2 level but it seems that its a snowball effect. When I say poaching I'm talking about top 120 D1 players that are commited, and I mean considering me and me alone, being taken by low level mid majors.

I think that's to be expected. If you're a DII team and you're aiming that high (and I'm not saying that you shouldn't), it comes with the territory.

In wooden, I counted over 45 "5 Star players" And hardely any 1,2,3 star players. It is top heavy with talent, just enough for the high prestige teams to feed on and mid major schools will never be able to compete, there for never move up in the coaching ladder. Now I know people say, " Oh the stars are just window dressing, blah blah blah, but it gives a great indication on who you can recruit at a mid major school. I think the old generation had a max of top 20 or 25 players were "5 star" players. Basicaly the only players available at a "C+" school are DIV II type players. This is rediculous!

i'd buy what you were selling if you just didn't go 26-5 at Portland State with a top 25 ranking, top 20 rpi and a 2nd round national tourney appearance all in your fourth year at the school.  the ridiculousness you speak of is dispelled by your actual gameplay and you've provided a helluva counter-argument to your actual point.

Agreed, 100%.

I don't believe the number of recruits with 3-5 stars has changed in the past few years (10-15 seasons).
There usually are around 35 5-stars, another 40 4-stars and 40 3-stars.   So if you just recruit by star ratings (3-5 stars) the size of the pool hasn't diminished.
The ratings of the 5-stars has probably improved overall, the 4-stars have dropped a bit and the 3-star ratings have dropped  alot..

I try hard to ignore the number of stars a player has - I think of them as a head fake designed only to confuse me

This season was dominated by prior generation recruits. Not the new generated recruits.

Totally agree 100% also, it has happened in the past but i've noticed a lot more especially in this last cycle. Maybe it was just a coincidence this last time, but I also had a lot of my top targets already considering low mid-major SIM AI schools as well.

I may be leaving to join a D2 conference in the next few seasons. I don't feel the talent around is enough and even though I am at a Big 6 school, A+ schools can beat me in recruiting. I'm just glad I got to a Big 6 school before the new generation destroyed my mid-major recruiting and never let me come to this level. I also do miss the success I had in D2 and the competition was more fun.
