i am not sure what people were telling you in the original thread, which i have not seen. but what CS seems to be saying, i thought was exactly the general consensus among coaches. sims recruit totally differently, and are not impacted by distance, no matter if its international or not. the conclusion being it can be prohibitively expensive to recruit against a sim for internationals.
i also personally feel like sims are not impacted by prestige to the effect they should be. but thats just my observation, i haven't heard other coaches support that.
Heres a link to the original thread-- not a lot of response, but the ambiguity led me to send a ticket:
www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx Some pretty long-term and accomplished coaches with very different ideas. And I haven't recruited against SIM on internationals enough times to have a strong opinion on it, or even a good feel for it. On the prestige thing, I've never noticed that lack of impact, but never really recruit against em in d3, and my only d1 school has good prestige so it rarely matters when fighting off Simmy.
@ tianyi- I don't care if they use credits or $ (po-tay-to : po-tah-to), but the FAQ shows their equivalent recruiting costs to be ~200 mile costs regardless of distance, meaning I can figure out some amount of equivalent spend to overcome what i think they've "spent" (or credited).
All semantics, but I think it's important that we have a way to measure effort, or at least possible maximum effort, from any school we face in recruiting.
But my takeaway is that billyg is right, given the right circumstances it can be very difficult to knock Simmy off an international recruit.
