Type D Compensation Question Topic

"If you don't sign your true first round pick, second round pick, or third round pick you will be awarded with a Type D pick the following season. In order to receive the compensation pick you must offer the player his initial demands, he must refuse to sign, and you must never withdraw your offer to the draft pick at any time. If those conditions are met then you will receive a compensation pick in next seasons draft in the same slot that you picked the previous season plus one depending on any other shifting from franchises that were awarded Type D compensation picks before you."

The above is quoted from the HBD FAQ. My question-- or request for a clarification as follows-- I took some gambles with my first and third round picks in a world, due to the fact that it wasn't a particularly deep draft.  I drafted two players with regular picks (1st and 3rd) and each has the "May Sign..." qualifier. One has come back and said he'd be willing to sign, at a higher price (and I don't like it).  Am I correct in assuming that such a player would qualify for a Type D pick, should I not counter? Or are Type Ds only awarded when a player refuses to sign in the sense that he goes back to school, etc?

As long as you meet his initial demands and he refuses, you have met the qualification for receiving Type D.

A related question: I have a type D this season.  Should I take a risk on that pick, and he does not sign, will I get a D again next season? In other words, are there any limitations on that slot, or is it treated as just another pick?  Thank you.

Type D's are one-time only, so you gotta make them count.
