How would you play this guy? Topic

He is listed as SF, but I have a hard time playing a guy with 42 spd, and it looks like he has maxed out his spd. Rest of his stats are pretty good, but he's definitely not a 1 or 2, might have problem defending quicker guys at the 3, but then lacks the reb/sb for 4 or 5. Any ideas? Is he stuck as a perpetual backup and a spot player based on matchup? I'm really out of ideas and haven't played him much in his FR* year.

i'd say you can start him as a defensive stopper at the 3/4 and play matchups... wouldn't start everyday, but if someone has a slow PF or not a ton of rebounding he'd be a good guy to play some lock down D

I would play him at SF.  You have to get that guy in the lineup.

this is at the D III Heartland conference, right? For a D III SF he's plenty fast enough IMHO. His ath is great for D III, and he's a pretty good defender. His rebounding is dropping, so I'm guessing you aren't practicing it - I would put minutes there to get his reb as high as possible, and go with him as your starting SF next season unless you have someone better already slotted for the 3...in which case its back to the bench for him I'd imagine...

Ya that's the team. He's not gonna start at the 3 because I have two pretty studly SFs playing starting at the 2 and 3. I'll take your word that his 40ish spd is good enough for D3. I was a little worried simply because I faced a couple of teams with players having spd in the 80s and 90s (some times across the 1, 2 and 3) which made it impossible to defend.

he's a great 2nd string SF

This player's natural position is at the "smower forward".  Since there is no such thing he is makes for a terrific back up to both the small forward and power forward position for the entirety of his career.

A very solid guy to use as a defender in certain matchups.  I agree that the 42 SPD is not a huge drawback for a DIII SF.  I'd say you'll be able to find plenty of minutes for him as a reserve SF, and possibly even start him against opponents who use a high LP/low PE starter at SF (especially one who is a focal point of his team's offense).
