How long at D2? Topic

Is it possible to qualify for a Big 6 job without coaching at a low level D1 first? If so, how many seasons at D2 before that is possible? I've been at the same school for 8 seasons and we've made 6 straight NT's with an Elite 8 and FF run mixed in. Just curious if I should go ahead and make the jump to a low or mid level D1 or keep hoping that next season i'll qualify for a higher prestige job.

Probably only a really beat down Baylor type team with a C- prestige, after you made the final 4.    Or maybe an A10 team.  It will be impossible to get a B prestige D1 team from D2.

I think you should find a good D1 job in the MVC or CUSA or one of the other mid level conference.  Mtn West, Horizon, MAC, they are all better than the really low conferences.

A couple of seasons back, I jumped from D-II to Ohio St. (C+) in Crum. You probably need 4 reasonably successful seasons on the resume, though if one of them were D-III, it might still work.
