Since the original thread has evolved into a discussion on the value of gameplanning... I'm starting a new one.  Anyway, this is my baseline distribution for my Rochester team.  I'll repost the lineup just for reference.

I've only made a few minor adjustments during the season since things have generally worked pretty well offensively.  Stewart has doubled from 2 to 4 and probably deserves another 1 or 2 on there, but I don't know where it would come from.  Bradley's dramatic improvements in LP make me think he might deserve some more distro, but his performance hasn't demanded more distro and again, I don't know where I'd take it from.

To address the one other question I anticipate seeing a lot of, Petit is starting because I promised him he could.  I was battling a D2 school for him and finished up with leftover cash in the single digits.

Can you post shooting percentages? I'm too lazy to look.     

personally, I would have Garren and Carroll's distro both in the high 20s.

I'd move Garren down a little and Carroll up, not knowning anything else about the team or the level you are at, or ratings.  I already forgot.

for 3pt frequency i would change garren to a +2, carter to a +2, scott to a 0, taylor a -1, golden -1 or -2, carroll a -2, maupin is right, bradley is a tough one, i wanna say +1or 0, stewart & petite are fine.

distros - garren's distro is too high he isn't your best guard, carter is. maupin probably could be bumped up.

but since i made such a stink about matchups let me tell you how i would set the distro and positioning for your upcoming game against skidmore.
look for weaknesses, starting center and sf is the spots to exploit.........oddly enough he has some very talented defensive guards....red alert!

well as i stated i believe carter is your best player so i want to maximize his performance. you have two choices, either move carter to sf for the game or play carter in the second line so that he faces a weaker starting guard or their backup guards who are much weaker. i choose moving him to sf.

pg - golden, best passer, distro set on 1 or 2, - their backup pg on the other hand is not that good and i'd put maupin here with a distro of 5 or 6
sg - another sacrificial player - either u put scott here for rebounds or you put taylor up so that you have better passing, either way distro for both would be low like 2 or 3...............but the backup sg is not so good..........put garren on the second line, set distro at 7
sf - CARTER! let the kid shoot! easy matchup, i'd go as high as 19 -24 on distro, second line, Bradley, another easy matchup, i'd put him on a distro of 15 to 19 at least.
pf - manfredi, distro 6, petit distro 6 or 7---------(if your feeling frisky you might want to put scott here and if you did i'd bump the distro to 7 or 8 for him if you start him, if you have him as the backup you can bump him to 9-12...........also if you do this you can create more depth at the pf/c spots and have petit on the 3rd line for both spots and give him a distro of 4-6)
c- second easiest matchup of the starters, carroll, distro of 10-14, .......second line stewart and love the matchup, distro 9-11

i'd set the minutes for the starting guards to be 9-13 so that maupin and garren play more minutes,
there is a bunch of other stuff, but that is the gist.

team defense set at +1 for this contest

Two places where I disagree with Skunk:

1. Skidmore's SG doesn't scare me that much defensively against Garren or Carter; yes, he has a 91 DE, but he is so much slower than the two of them that they should still be able to get open looks if he is guarding them.

2. My super secret formula lists Garren as a slightly better offensive player than Carter (although it is very close and both are studs.)

Otherwise, I agree with Skunk for the most part.  I'd probably start Golden at PG because their PG is a defensive stud - rather not have one of my better players guarded by him.  And Skidmore's defenders at SF and C are truly putrid (their PF is not a great defender either, for that matter).  With that in mind, I'd give huge shares of the distro to Carroll, Bradley, and Scott for this game, as high as 20-25 each.  (Stewart should also be able to score effectively against his centers, although I always get nervous giving a big distro share to such a poor ballhandler against the press, even when he is playing C.)

Also, run uptempo.  You have a big talent edge, and if you are giving the ball a lot to Carroll, Bradley, and Scott and pounding them inside, then you can get them into foul trouble on top of everything else.

As for the more general question, I'd rate your players in this order offensively:

Top tier: Garren, Carter
Next group: Bradley, Scott, Carroll
Next: Golden
Final group: Petit, Manfredi, Stewart
No distro: Maupin

So in general, my goal would be to adjust my lineup so that among the five guys in the top two groups, you always have at least a couple who have weak defenders on them.  Jack up the distribution on the appropriate players from those two groups, based on matchups.

(Then again, since your team is shooting 55% overall and 44% on treys, it is hard to fathom that what you're already doing is flawed!)

davis, how much for your super secret formula? ..........i liked reading your game planning style, it's interesting to see the other angles.

My current formula has Garren as a superior perimeter shooter to Carter, and Garren is also the one with non-negligible low post skills.  I'm surprised to see Davis put Carroll behind Garren and Carter.  I think maybe I should have specified that I play a triangle offense.  Your formula seems to put slightly more emphasis on athleticism than I do and it could be in part due to the offense being the one that emphasizes athleticism the least.  To drive home my point, Garren is a career .487/.457 shooter, while Carter is a career .444/.419 shooter.  Carroll is "only" a career .557 shoot and not shooting 1.5x Garren and Carter's 3% this year.  The main reason I've given him so much distro is that with Bradley taking a large proportion of his shots from outside as well I felt that I really needed some inside balance to keep opponents from pushing out extreme + defenses.  In years past I've had enough rebounding talent to discourage that strategy, but this year we are above average but not exceptional on the boards.

I probably overvalue ATH (and SPD, for that matter) at all positions, not just for bigs - so I'm sure that my formulas reflect that, and maybe as a result they downgrade players like Carroll.  I certainly can't argue with a career 56% shooting percentage!

For what it's worth, both of my current teams run the motion offense.  It has been so long since I looked at the HD offense descriptions that I can't even remember what they say about ATH in the motion offense, so I don't know if maybe ATH is of more value in the motion than in the triangle in the game engine.  (I never could make much sense out of the offense descriptions, they always seemed to say "good players will thrive in this offense and bad players will suck" for each offense, LOL.)

The primary advantages that I've found running the triangle are that I can more easily hide one or 2 defense-first players and that I don't need as much athleticism as other offenses require, which gives me a slightly different recruiting pool.  I would say the proof is in the pudding here - as per my last post, Garren has been a *significantly* better shooter in his career than Carter.

IMHO it is the most important stat for all players since it effects so many in game actions.
