Sacrifice flies count as a plate appearance, reducing OBP.

What kermit is saying is that sacrifice flies hurt your OBP but don't change your BA.  A walk will raise your OBP and also won't change your BA.

So, any player who has more sacrifice flies than walks will have a higher BA than OBP.  Needless to say, this is not a good attribute.

Really? A guy who has 100 sac flies but only 50 BB isn't productive to the team?

Sac flies are situational.  If there wasn't a man on third, you're talking about 100 fly ball outs.  Not very productive.

Ah but if a man was on third for those 100 sac flies then you have 100 RBI on the year --seems productive to me.

Bottom 9th with a runner on third with less than two outs in a tie game. What would you want your batter to do---  deep  fly to RCF or walk?

Bottom 9th with a runner on third and two outs, down by a run.  What would you want your batter to do--- deep fly to RCF or walk?

See, I can play that game too.  It's situational.
