High potential, low rating Topic

I have a player who had a rebounding rating of 1 when I recruited him and now after practicing 10 minutes for over a season it is at a 3.  Is this normal?  I feel like with high potential it would have moved up more than that.

Thats normal he increased 300%.  If he had a higher starting rating he would go up more.  plus 10 minutes isnt that much.

I'd say there's probably no point in you putting any mins into his rebounding, unless he's maxed out all of his other higher ratings. Average potential for a category where he's already at, say, 30 is going to give you a lot more growth than putting 10 mins into REB.

Eh don't stop now.  Going from 1 to 3 takes the longest, it will move faster the higher it gets.

It's my observation that players with low ratings are sometimes more likely to have high potential in those skills.  Not always, but enough to be a trend.

I only worry about potential on the key skill areas I'm recruiting for.

Maybe he improves a bit... yet the best case scenario is that he's still a relatively weak and inefficient rebounder.  Maxing out at, what, 20? 30 even?  Wouldn't those 10 min. be better spent on improvement in a category where he'll actually make an impact?

And 10 min. really isn't that much either.  If yiou figure 7 min. is the baseline for all practice categories, then 10 min. isn't all that much.  Again, put your minutes and the player's efforts into something that will actually make him and your team better.

Wow, that guys sick, I'm guessing he's basically done growing in his cores, or at least I hope so, lol. Give it a shot, I'm interested to see the results.

Yeah, he's turned out well.  My only complaint is that he has high potential in both rebounding and low post and I haven't been able to spare many practice minutes to attempt to raise them much.  This year I should be able to put around 20 minutes into each.

Five months ago I created a thread about these types of players: www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?topicID=422253&page=1

Just into play in the fourth season.

Here's the guy with a 1 rating in speed: www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=7834&pid=1606424

And here's the guy with a 1 rating in perimeter and ball handling: www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=1606423

Initial growth is slow -- way too slow in my opinion -- but it will gain speed as you get closer to double digits.

if he's done in his cores. . pour 35 minutes into it or so and forget diminishing returns. . .

Kujahawk, those players pretty much fall into the 25-30 point improvement range for high potential areas.   I'm surprised you were disciplined enough to keep practicing those cores.  Like ankerjm said, sometimes I think its better to forget those ultra lows and concentrate on other areas.   Good to know they will get higher -- eventually.

i know it's a different situation than your guy...is it's just a throwin category for you at this point, but i think it's definitely worthwhile to take a chance on guys here and there as your 12th man as long as the rest of your team is strong enough.  sometimes you can get a good player even if the cores start out low, as long as they have high WE and you can confirm high high potential

granted this guy isn't quite in the same boat because he didnt start at 1, but he started in single digits in both rebounding and low post, but had very high athleticism, defense and work ethic for D3.  i thought with a redshirt and patience i'd get one good year out of him before he graduated.

instead, with a redshirt and halfway into his second season of play he's having a big impact already...and still has 2.5 seasons to get better.  his rebounding is almost maxed now...and is still a little low for a PF, but his LP still had high potential coming into this season and figures to be well into the 70s or 80s before it's done.

I'll throw this guy out there again. When I took over the team, this player was a So. and LP was in the single digits. Now check out the LP after almost one full season and 20 games into his JR year.

How much practice time are you putting into LP for him?

Started with 20 for about 5 games, then 35 for maybe another 5, and finally settled on 27.
