How is favorite school determined?

Specifically, which of the following factors are considered:

a) prestige of school/recent success
b) baseline prestige of school/conference
c) proximity to recruit

A pool of possible schools is determined that fit the recruit's proximity preference (e.g. close to home, far, either). Also we try to ensure that the potential schools have a high enough prestige to sign the player. After that it's a random selection.

So 5-star recruits will almost never have favorite school = Morris Brown, and recruits from Chicago will never have "far from home" and "favorite school = Northwestern" checked?

When you say "high enough prestige," is that baseline or current? That is, can you get a shot to have better recruits liking you by raising your prestige, or will a B+ Maryland do better than an A+ Missouri?

Current prestige is the factor, not baseline.

Very interesting info. Too bad Favorite School (and Distance Preference) carries so little weight.

Hmm, their definitiion of high enough prestige to sign the player may need some clarification.  Just among states I scouted in Allen:

#4 Overall recruit Bruce Dark - childhood favorite, C+ Tennessee St
#10 overall recruit Jason Houle - childhood favorite, C+ Bradley
#37 overall recruit Jason Owens - chilhood favorite, C Weber St
#59 overall recruit Randolph Smartt - childhood favorite, D+ Bowling Green
#67 overall recruit Thomas Marino - childhood favorite, C- Grambling State
#70 overall recruit William Sherman - childhood favorite, D+ American University

Going back to when this was introduced, I have urged

1. give it more weight

2.  create other textured characteristics for recruits

- wants strong academics
- wants warm climate
- loves to ski, wants mountains and snow
- wants cold climate
- wants party school
- wants hot women
- needs low academic demands

I'm sure we could think of a few more

Does anyone actually use "Favorite School" as a factor in recruiting players? I thought the feature was more for show than anything else?

I've used it, and it seems to carry some weight.  I think it should have far more, though.  Like maybe the recruit should start out considering you if you are his favorite school.  Also it is strange when a recruit in New England has a favorite that is some tiny school out west with bad prestige.  There are all kinds of changes that could be made

At the very least, they should contact you, regardless of whether or not you have scouted their state.

All that said - I have 5 open scholies, and not many yr's at the D1 level.

Do I have a shot at this guy with a c+ Prestige?

Don't do it.
