Impact of a redshirt when he doesn't want it Topic

FWIW: I decided to leave it on through the game and try after, and he eventually took it on the 4th try for me as well...perhaps there's something to that

It's random. I've had plenty of players where I've tried 10+ times with no luck.

Quite honestly, it's a silly loophole that they should get rid of.

i see it took you four tries, maybe i can pull it off in 3 since i'll apparently only have one more shot before my first game
Not true, just keep him off your depth charts and he won't play. As long as he never enters a game you can redshirt him at any point during the season.

Yeah I realized that after I said that before....and I agree, it is a bad loophole

I've had guys where I've tried 15+ times and they never took it. Personally I would've just left it on after the he only went down 16 points. 48WE is a fine starting point for WE, although since it worked out for you no harm no foul.

I agree but I think the whole setup for freshman is messed up. I can't be the only one who thinks it's retarded that a freshman will have no problem sitting on the bench and not play a second the whole season (since that's now possible in the new engine) but will see his WE drop to 1 if he gets redshirted when it's the same thing except the RS is better since he gets an extra year of eligibility. I brought this up to CS and they didn't see a problem with it which baffles me. In a way it makes some sense that if you try multiple times they will finall accept it because maybe it takes 7 or 8 games into the season of them not playing a second for them to realize they aren't going to play anyway so they might as well take the RS.

I'm not sure if college basketball is like this but college football is, you don't have to assign a RS but if a player doesn't play at all during a season it's an automatic RS. I wish that were put into the game if it's something that is part of college basketball.
