Unexplained jump in rebounds per game for my PG Topic

Any hypotheses that could explain the jump in rebounds by my PG?  I suppose it may have to do with changes in the lineup at other positions, but he sure got better on the boards as a senior.  Lineup didnt change much and we didnt change much about game planning etc

He's just a 9 REB - which makes the 2.1 RPG rather remarkable to me

probably a combination of lineup changes, available rebounds and his high athleticism. its not that big of a jump.

Well, he grabbed 1.4 his soph year with less ath and reb, in 22min. Probably some great rebounders left your team last year? That would explain the drop to 1 reb/game his Jr year and the increase this year.

I cant say that I track height

We lost one big and one SF from last season - no big change in REB ability elsewhere

It is a small change in absolute terms, but the sample size is a full season so it puzzles me

Whats the team? Did the player have one or two really abberant games that pulled up his average a good bit?

good question - he had one 4 rebound game and a bunch of 3

its Maryland in Knight

I doubt there is an answer - but there are some good thoughts in this thread, thanks

He grabbed 1.4 rebound his soph year in 22min. now hes a sr with 26mpg. If anything, I would say his JR year is the abberation. Something like .8, 1.4, 1.7, 2.0, reb/game looks much more in line.

Without looking at your team history, my thoughts were his SR year, you had the best team and forced alot of missed shots, which explains the 1.4 def reb/game, while last season, your team was much worse, explaining the 0.6 def reb/game. The .3 oreb/game increase is probably because he is better this year than yrs past + some random noise.

And after checking out ur team, my theory seems to fit.

I like that idea - more missed shots therefore more REB available to be grabbed.  Also, I probably ran uptempo more - cant check last season's stats.  very good analysis - and it is a good example of how statistical results reflect complex interactions of player and team characteristics and coaching decisions - thanks!

I did notice that he only grabbed a total of 60 of your team's 972 rebounds...seems like there were just an awful lot of rebounds to go around?
