5th year ineligible Topic

I have a DII player who was ineligible his first season.  He now is improving and has a 3.2 GPA his junior year.  As i think about recruiting in the future I need to know whether I need to recruit for his position this upcoming off season or not.  My question is, do these type of players usually stay for a 5th season?  Is there a way to know for sure?  Thanks for the advice.

He'll stay.  His grades would have to dramatically fall off the table for him to not be eligible in his 5th season.  I don't remember exactly what the number is at D2, but it's something like a 2.4 GPA.  It's in one of the mails you get from your AD at the beginning of the season.

Do all players stay for a 5th season at DII then if they meet the grade requirements?  In other words, if he gets the grades he stays?

No. They don't always stay. In my experience, most of he ineligibles I have signed have stayed for their 5th years, but it is not a guarantee. The minimum GPA is 2.7 to be eligible for the 5th year.

Sorry but the above answers are not totally correct and this is how forum facts get started. An ineligible at DII will sit out his first season and then automatically get his 4 seasons. The GPA minimum at DII is 2.0. AT DIII, an ineligible can play immediately. At DI, it is the player's option whether to return for his SR5 season or not as long as he meets the GPA requirement. The minimum GPA requirement at DI is 2.7.

Nope, I had a guy who decided not to come back his 5th year in div II. It was my first or 2nd season at Caldwell in IBA. He averaged 18 mpg, but just sent me a letter that it was time to move on. I was thankful as I didn't really want him back, but because he had the grades I figured he was a lock.

I've also had a player bypass his 5th season at D2.
But only one in probably close to 50 non-qualifiers I've recruited.

So is it possible that what Weena has stated is a new change to the system?  Furry and Iguana have you had this happen recently or was this something that happened like 10 seasons ago?  Thanks for the help.

I've had it happen recently as well as 13 seasons ago. Both averaged near 20 ppg and each message was different. One was saying he felt he needed a bigger role but was not a transfer, the other just wanted to move on.

I want to say the player in question was...

I know I never signed him, but for some reason it says I did. I was not on the team when he was signed so I am almost 100% sure it was him. I just remember it being a sim ai PF. He was a JR when I came along, and didn't cut him because I thought he'd be gone soon. The next season when he was a SR, I saw he had a chance for a 5th year and tried to fail him, but it didn't work. I was surprised when he sent me a message saying he wasn't coming back, and made a topic about it because I never saw it before. I also had a player leave early on another team, and he was a pretty solid player so I was ****** about that one.
