Fast paced tempo Topic

Hey fellas, do you think if you have a considerable speed advantage relative to the team you're playing, that a fast paced tempo would exploit?  Just curious because I hear tempo mentioned a lot when talking about possessions but not necessarily speed.  Thanks guys.

Tempo only relates to how quickly the team will take a shot. Uptempo will shoot very quickly, slowdown tempo will hold the ball as long as they can before shooting. Tempo has no bearing on how fast the ball is moved up and down the court.

as counter-intuitive as it sounds, tempo and speed have nothing to do with one another...to extrapolate an answer to part of your question, which may or may not interest you, stamina is ultimately probably the primary consideration, followed closely by IQ I would think when setting tempo...lower stamina (teams that will consistently have players at orange or worse at uptempo) and low IQ teams (which make more errors per possession on average, therefore less possessions = less errors in theory) are typically best served with slowdown.

I think overall depth is very important in that decision making process. If you have an especially strong bench (or simply not a significant difference between your starters and bench), then uptempo makes more sense.

I also factor in if I have a talent advantage - more possessions, more likely overall talent wins out (kind of a regression to the mean).

dalt I agree as long as the total team stamina is high enough to run up tempo.

if the more talented overall team suffers from enough of a stamina disadvantage, they'll get players into orange and red sooner. Those are death zones. That will negate any talent advantage.

for once, i don't really agree with this. i'm not sure it particularly matters, less time is used per possession, im not sure if it matters if that is less time in the half court and bringing the ball up or just in the halfcourt.

anyway, the OPs original question with speed seems to be to be a question about fast break opportunities. does speed let you take more advantage of going uptempo, because you can get numbers down court faster than your opponent and garner an advantage there? i am highly confident this answer is yes.

It's quite interesting though, when running uptempo, your teams Fastbreak points sure do go up more. That has nothing to do with speed?

I think too many players in this game make Hoops Dynasty into a video game and forget basic basketball common sense. Basketball is basketball.

what if you have poor stamina like my team  but you have no problem going 10-11 deep?

none of my players are capable of playing 30 minutes at a fast pace - most would be best around 18-20.

but since i go that deep with not that much dropoff due to my balanced roster (as oppossed to 5 mam recruiting seasons) can fast paced work there as well?
