Just curious, lets say I have a player who is arbitration eligible, if I release him instead of arbitrating will I still get a compensation pick if he is a Type A/B free agent?

Or do I have to wait for him to ask for a long term contract and decline in order to receive a compensation pick?

No comp pick if you release him - he has to be beyond arb years and eligible for free agency.
