Starting the Freshman? Topic

Between this player I already had - who disappointed in his development(Junior):

Athleticism 26

Speed 77

Rebounding 15

Defense 1

Shot Blocking 2

Low-post 1

Perimeter 56

Ball Handling 66

Passing 54

Work Ethic 35

Stamina 78

Durability 45

And this incoming freshman:

Athleticism 23

Speed 73

Rebounding 9

Defense 14

Shot Blocking 1

Low-post 14

Perimeter 33

Ball Handling 64

Passing 63

Work Ethic 36

Stamina 71

Durability 59

Is it almost worth starting the incoming freshman?  What difference in IQ would make it still better to start the older player?  Position is Point guard. . second guy definitely looks like much more of a pure point guard, and has the potentials to back it up. . . but how much would I be hurting myself, potentially, over IQ issues THIS season??

You will also take a hit in the Perimeter rating as well as the IQ, but with the better passing, I'd start the Freshman, possibly. What's the difference in offensive and defensive IQ?

Start the freshman, and don't think twice about it.  You might suffer a little with the IQ difference, but you'll be better off in the long run.

depends, are you going for a run now or later.

if you're looking to win right now i'd go with the older player (but splitting minutes) if you're looking ahead then the frosh no question

Won't know the exact iq on the frosh yet until recruiting is over(He's signed, but Can't see IQ yet.  Older guy is b/b.

Depends on the potential at key spots for the freshman.  Fontenot is going to be a better player to start the season but if the freshman is high potential in key areas, he'll more than make up for any IQ gap as the season wears on.  I'd suggest going with Fontenot in the OOC and then re-evaluating for the conference season depending on where both guys' skils and IQ are at the start of the conference season.

Another variable to consider is the opponent you'll be facing in any given game.  I rate the two as about equivalent in terms of running the offense, but the junior is a better scorer and the freshman is a better defender.  So if I was facing an opponent where I needed to generate some points from the PG position to win, I'd start the junior; otherwise, I'd start the freshman because of his better defense, and in order to develop him for the future.  (Of course, both are pretty bad defensively, but the freshman is at least better than the junior.)

I'd also consider starting the junior against pressing teams until the freshman has a chance to learn the offense (if he is coming in without knowing it already).

whats the potentials for the freshman? i hope he has a high in ath and def because those ratings are putrid.

High ATH, LP, BH, Sta, FT, only low is SHot blocking, which I really don't care about.  Yes, defense is likely to be low, but he'll end up with good speed, the ATH looks like a high+, as does the BH, the LP is a bonus. . .

And next year, when recruiting five, a SG with a good defense to play alongside him in zone is going to be a target.  There weren't too many decent PG skills people around I could get my hands on within shooting range.  Going to Redshirt one of the two centers(Hopefully the one with low ratings now). . .
