Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Robert Bell  was my SS last year on my team that lost in the WS. I'd like to eep him b/c of his hitting but that 78 range is scary. He was an 82 range lat year and fielded .977% .  He'd only play against lefties....thoughts or insight??

if he is only starting against lefties and gets a Defensive replacement in the 7th inning you should be able to afford to get his bat in the line up 00 then move him to RF or 3B next year

I have enough of RF/3B types so I'm only concerned about him playing SS this season. We just rolled over and I don't see any worthwhile SS on the upcoming FA market. I'm really torn on whether his range would do more harm than good. I love his hitting vL though.

I wouldn't worry about it that much.  I started Pedro Belliard all last season at SS with 78 range.  He played pretty well.  I could live with the 4 negative plays for the season.  We won the WS so he didn't cost us the season.

Danger, Will Robinson.

He's only got one season of even stretching to play SS left in him--and the bat is not very good at any other position. Look at his OPS in the last 3 seasons, when you've been (smartly) platooning him; it's about .730. I guess that plays with his glove at 2B or 3B; what kind of contract do you want to commit to a (wrong-side) platoon 3B who's glove-heavy and bat-light?

One season contract, only. If he wants more, let him hit the market.

He wants 4.1 x 2 years. I'll put a mutual option on the 2nd so I can get out of it.  I have Billy Ray Leon also, I use him as a backup at 2B/3B/CF....Think his glove is too low for SS?  I'm planning on using Geoffery Blank as my SS  vR's

Fact of the matter is that Bell and Leon are both below the recs for SS in 3 out of 4 ratings.

mlhutch's Belliard only has subpar range, but is at or above in the other 3 categories.

Looks like a sweet vL platoon option to me, if you can get him for a 6 figure salary. No way is he worth millions. I'd let him walk and sign him for less. Even if his range drops to 77 from not being signed immediately, I don't see a problem.

range doesn't drop in-season, does it?

Only if he gets injured will range drop during the season
