NT At Large Bids Topic

I seem to recall reading that you need at minimum a .500 record to get an at large bid to the NT. Can anyone confirm that or show me a case of a team getting invited without a .500 record?

I sent in a ticket on this a few years ago and was told that there are many factors looked at when selecting the at-large teams.....  which led me to believe a team with a losing record could get a bid, although they stopped short of saying a losing record doesn't or does automatically eliminate a team.  This came after a fellow conference team with a 14-15 record and rpi around 40 didn't get a NT bid.

But in spite of what was said, I don't ever recall seeing an at-large bid go to a team with a losing record.

yeah, he is asking about an at-large though.

i am pretty sure you have to be at least .500 for an at large. i've seen a handful of teams go just under .500, with NT rpi, and they predictably get the #1 seed in the PIT - which would be a pretty big coincidence if in every one of those cases, they just managed to miss making the NT by exactly 1 spot. i am pretty sure CS has confirmed this as well.

You can't get an at-large to the NT with a losing record, you can go to the PIT with one though.

Yes, if you win your CT you go to the NT regardless of record.

The NCAA has a rule that bars any team below .500 from the NT if they did not get an automatic bid by winning their CT. WIS uses the same rule in HD. Also, although not a rule, it is very rare for a team with an above .500 overall record but below .500 conference record to be selected for an at-large bid.
