For a D3 team, running a motion offense and a zone defense, to play the 5.

I'd go with #2.  In the categories where #1 has the edge, he is only better by a tiny amount, whereas #2 has 15- to 20-point advantages in speed, defense, perimeter and passing.  Admittedly some of these are not crucial categories for a 5, but he is the more well-rounded player.

Smith starting, Thompson can backup both post positions with a zone setup and both players will get 20mpg+.  More value from Thompson as a backup.

take #2 zbrent and don't look back. Or actually, take #1 and let me know who #2 is and I'll pick him up.

in a vacuum...i may actually go with smith if he's purely playing the 5. if he's ever playing the 4, definitely thompson.

the second guy

For those who picked Thompson, does it make any difference if I already this guy in the fold:

Name Yr. Pos. A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT TOT
James Saltzman Sr. PF 65 50 60 70 40 65 35 30 15 68 70 60 B-

Especially if you suggested playing Thompson at the 4, could Saltzman thrive as a the 3 in a 2-3, with one of Thompson/Saltzman being benched if we went 3-2?

I think Saltzman can play SF at D3.  I tend to run three-guard offenses so I'm not an expert on playing guys like him there, but I think he'd be fine there.

A D2 Human with OK prestige and no other battles just jumped on Thompson, so I guess that makes the decision for me. Thanks for all of the input.
