Coaching and playing time equals development.  So, as long as you have good coaches, and you're not sitting your guys on the bench, they should still develop their skills.

So say you have far better coaches in AAA versus those in the RL...would it be ok to place a just signed draft pick in AAA if you can guarantee his playing time but also guarantee that he will not play very well as his current ratings are more on par with other RL players?

There's something to the idea of timely promotions helping development.  In addition, if a few seasons go by without a promotion, there is a chance that the prospect retires.  You're probably better off developing a prospect "normally."

I try to start probable major league prospects at High A and possible ML prospects at least at Low A.  The ratings for rookie league coaches are so low that you're sabotaging a good prospect for his first half-season.  That is critical since players' greatest improvement occurs at the start of their careers.

I do that too.  Unless they are some 22 year old IFA who is pretty much at his projections and is ML ready.  I would start one of those off in AA, AAA or ML, depending on the situation.

Ah good info...I never thought of just starting them out at HiA LoA like that.  Plus they'd still get their regular promotions to keep them in the game.

I see guys promote prospects that are 10 rating points from projections to the ML and I always wondered if this stunted that projection or if guys will continue to reach their projections at the same pace since they are getting better coaching at the ML level?  Any studies done on this?

If they've got room to grow, they'll do it at any level, as long as they're getting playing time.

If they get the same amount of playing time, the theory is they'll improve even better on the ML level, assuming that you have better coaches there.

In addition to what others have mentioned, there are significant issues concerning service time and cost to consider with bringing up a prospect "too soon".
