It doesn't really matter, does it?  Will a player complain about playing time if he's not eligible to play?

makes no difference at all - they never complain

I figured that but the point is moot now anyways because the guy passed his tests and is now eligible.  Also I don't believe that I will get him.

you did discover the only real downside to promises to ineligible recruits. Sometimes they get themselves eligible, and if you sign him you now have to honor those promises (or suffer the not meeting your promises penalty)

Exactly.  It sucks when that happens, but it's a chance that you take.  I recruit ineligibles alot and usually make them promises and it has come back to burn me once.  After that, it's like Dacj says, you either honor your promises or don't and then deal with the consequences.

One good thing is, if the player stays ineligible, the promises don't carry over to the next season, so his starts and minutes promises get wiped out and he can be used just like any normal second year player.

Yea well I did end up signing the guy.  But I had a big class and should be able to give him the required minutes.  He's also a pretty good dropdown so I'll take it!!
