Hey guys just an idea that I want to throw out there. Dont know if something like this has been put out there before but let me know what you think.  I think it would be cool if you could get bonus points to add to your players for winning various awards. For instance, if you win the conference player of the year award with a certain player you would be able to add somewhere between 5 and 10 attribute points to any categories of your choice. For instance if cpoy got 10 bonus points it may look something like this. 2 ath, 3 spd, 2reb, 3 lp.  Maybe dpoy could get 5 bonus points and freshmen of the year gets 3. Coach of year could maybe get an extra cash bonus for recruiting or something. I dont know just thought maybe it would add some extra incentive to receiving these prestigious awards. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

I think it would make a lot of sense if players received a work ethic boost if they won an award.

I like the work ethic boost idea - but I would also change the scheme for practices and in-season improvement so that instead of stopping at the end of the CT players would continue to improve in skills and IQ during postseason play.  Yes, that would mean that playing those extra games would benefit a team in terms of player improvement - but isnt that real? shouldnt it be

so yes, get an award, boost WE a bit - go deep in the PIT or the NT and players continue to pratcie and play and improve

Before I'd get on board with making the awards anything more than cosmetic the criteria and evaluation of those awards needs a long look.

that is a bad idea. plenty of players win those awards who have no business winning them.

If they came up with a more universally acceptable system of handing out the awards I would like to see them have some impact on school prestige or directly on recruiting.  I think it's pretty clear that schools with a reputation for turning out top-tier players and not only top teams can have recruiting advantages.

How about work ethic is allowed to keep improving in postseason play, as an entirely unrelated idea. . .

Yeah that would make a lot of sense to me. It would pay you to keep playing.

I like this

You don't continue to "improve" with practice in the post season?  I didn't know that.

in the ct, yes.  Not in the NT or PT.

100% agreed. And it's just too easy to manipulate.

There are just so many other things they need to devote their time to, fixing the award logic so that we'd feel comfortable about getting a we boost (or something like that) is really at the bottom of the list.

(Not to mention that I think IRL, something like that is just as likely to go to the player's head and cause him to rest on his laurels.)

My big 7-footer is an example of this.  He's a plodder - slow and unathletic, crappy defensive player, and yet his freshman year he won Lone Star Freshman of the Year because I started him and played him 20 min/game out of desperation.   7.3 reb/game looks good on paper, but the guy is a one-trick pony.  Not FOY potential.

37 speed isn't slow for a D2 center; in fact, it's probably above average.  His SB also makes him an adequate defender.  He is unathletic for a D2 big, though, and doesn't offer much offensively or, for that matter, on the boards.  But he's not slow!

Ok, he's still a plodder :)

Edit for clarification:

Donohue's rebounding and shot blocking look impressive on paper, but with an ATH of only 41, it doesn't translate well into stats.  He's averaging 1.5 ppg, 1.5 blocks, 1.0 ast, and 5.5 rebounds in our first two games,  but it's taking him 27 min/game against soft non-con competition.  Once conference play starts, he'll be exposed again like he has been the past 2 seasons.  (My division of Lone Star has the #4 team in the country, E. Central, ouch)
