Crazy Amount of Recruits Considering One School Topic

All I am saying is skunk, I have never seen a person post a recruit and you say, "Yeah he's not bad."  Its always "I would never recruit that guy.  He's awful."  carcrazy is doing just fine and.  He is working to balance his classes a bit and they guys he is bringing in will build a solid foundation.

i tell coaches when they grabbed a good player. it just looks like i'm captain negative, when i'm not, because i'm one of the few coaches that will be honest. too many coaches on here pat coaches on the back and tell them what they want to hear, but that isn't productive. the fact is, he is a b prestige in d2, with plenty of scholarships and he should have atleast two beasts at ath & spd in any position on his team, anything less isn't good enough. balancing classes? who cares. i want the best players, why should a coach care so much about balancing that he takes subpar players, makes no sense.

Class balance helps to prevent having to rebuild every time you lose a large class.  So it should be one of the considerations a coach looks at when recruiting.  Even if you sign a couple of Jucos or transfers, it takes most of one season to get their IQs up to playable levels.

In ugly's defense, he's not negative so much as he is brutally honest.  His advice to me in sitemail has been dead on, so far, and he helped me find and sign my first pulldown in my HD career.

I only disagree with him on a couple of the players on the original list  (it's changed since the first post in this thread and looks better now)  Now, looking at it, I think I'd take anyone but King as a fallback recruit.  None of them strike me as being program saviors, and it sounds like that's what uglyskunk is using as a measure.

I dropped Clifton. I want to go out and pull down a good perimeter shooter, someone who can contribute right away.

pretty much by definition, good perimeter shooters can't come in and contribute right away. not if you are talking 4 year players at least. by end of soph year, when you hit b+ iqs, that is when a perimeter shooter can contribute. bigs seem to be able to step up and put in a handful of points a game earlier, more like a b, maybe even b-.

Mmmm... I was thinking about a JUCO, but I'll see if I can't find a better defender.

Unless a JUCO already has some IQ in my favorite sets, he's not going to help much.  As billyg notes, it takes more than 1 season usually to get their IQ high enough to really do much.   By the time they know how to play your defense, they graduate.

As I posted on the first thread, I think this is pretty sound strategy at the lower levels, to lock down backups, and to continuously upgrade those backups as players drop down. This is what I did:

What do you do about the promises?  You don't really want to have promised a start to a bunch of backup level players.
