Alpha League needs 1 for 1895/1896 season(our 6th) Topic

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an owner with room for another progressive league teams.

An owner in the Alpha League has informed me he will not return for next season, which will be our 6th. His team won the World Series in season 4 and is currently in 1st place in it's division in season 5 leading by 2 games with a record of 96-50.

The Alpha League progresses 2 seasons at a time. Next season will be the 1895/1896 season. Each season owners get to select which season their players will use (assuming both seasons are in the WIS database).

The league as a whole will have a shortage of players for the next 3 seasons until the 1901/1902 season when a sufficiency of talent will be available. However, the available team, the Philadelphia Quakers, is one of only 3 or 4 that will have sufficient draft picks to fill the roster in 1895/1896. The hitting is in excellent shape and there is a nucleus of 4 good pitchers on the roster. 1 or 2 pitchers and a 3B (a very good 3B will be IR) are needed. The team will have 7 draft picks and there will be enough players to fill those slots.

For those teams not having enough players to draft (and some teams need 15 or 16) $200k scrubs from 2001-2010 will be drafted and can be replaced by AAA players.

I will list the roster for the Quakers below. For interested owners, I will give access to the league's private forum. This is an excellent team and a good opportunity for those interested in the early days of MLB. Please do not indicate interest unless you anticipate being able to continue for at least 5 seasons-we have a very stable league with commited owners.

I will award the team to the first qualified owner to commit.

Roster:

Keepers (18):

C Mike Grady, Bill Merritt
1B Roger Connor, Patsy Tebeau, Jack Boyle
2B Bid McPhee, Joe Quinn
SS Bill Dahlen
OF Sam Thompson, Tommy McCarthy, Elmer Smith, Bug Holliday, Duff Cooley
P George Hemming, Ed Stein, Dad Clarkson, Al Maul, Scott Stratton

IR (2):

3B Fred Hartman
P Crazy Schmit

They are currently tied for the division lead with 14 games to go- I anticipate they will draft 10th or 11th in the 12 team league. The biggest need will be for one more good starting pitcher, they also need a 3B for 2 seasons until Fred Hartman returns from IR.

Yeah they have Duff Cooley who has a 3B defensive rating. I think the pitching would be the larger challenge do you have a player list for the upcoming draft?

I have a meeting this morning-I'll post available players for 1895/1896 this afternoon in the private forum. I'm going to give you temporary access to the forum immediately. The available players are all rookies-due to the shortage of players there are no left over players or cuts.

I'll take them on if you'll have me

OK they are yours. I already posted the keeper lists, since there should be not cuts because of the player shortage. The regular season will be over on Monday 2/14 (the Quakers are still tied for the lead with 10 games to go. They are also tied for the 2nd best record in the league at 99-53 2 games back of the NL Dodgers. The private forum also has the league rules, which you should review.

The original rule thread link takes me to the old forums.

There is a thread in the Alpha League Forum titled "amended league rules" that has the current rules.

Looks good, i don't see a rule on team names?

We have been using cities in actual use in the 1885-1900 period. I have allowed use of any nickname desired. When we get to 1901/1902, we will use the 12 of the 16 cities in actual use at that time and we will need to decide how those cities will be allocated. We will also need to decide whether the league will expand to 16 teams- personally I would prefer not as the talent pool is pretty thin in the early days of the 20th century.

I will start the disussions on those topics once we have started the 1899/1900 season.

Your team should remain in Philadelphia but if you want to change the name from Quakers feel free.
