I'm thinking about buying another HBD season, joining an open world.  Is there a way to take a look at the available franchises prior to joining that world?

Click the world and go back one season in the standings.   You should be able to figure it out.

yeah, but I don't seem to be able to view the franchise.  I want to be able to see what options are available to me before paying for a season to join a new world.

If you click the old team, it should give you the active players.   If you're looking to dig deep into the roster easily, no.  From ARod:
