Very very small sample size, but I wanted to bring attention to the case of Felipe Guevara. Two seasons ago, I moved him from Setup A to LH Specialist. My thinking was with his very low health, stamina and durability. Take out his most likely mismanaged first season with an ERA of 8.67, he averaged about a 4.40 ERA and a WHIP of 1.4 with about 32 innings pitched a season. Since I moved him to Lefty Specialist, he has averaged a 2.4 ERA and a sub 1 WHIP in about 18 innings per season. I get that this is an extremely small sample size, but he has improved across the board on all stats. In fact, despite being a Left Hand specialist, he has actually been more effective against righties, giving up 7 hits against 70 righty batters and 12 hits against 60 lefty batters.
Further, despite being 29 years old, he his ratings have improved just as much or more in the seasons since he was 23.
I'm wondering if maybe moving Guevara to a different role in the pen can actually have these effects or if it is just a small sample size and the ratings are a fluke. I'm thinking this is the case, as he seems to be used in a similar role, but what do you think?
