Do you believe in miracles? Topic

Okay, this is a new one on me, so I'm asking for help in interpreting the meaning.

First recruiting cycle, I make my usual batch of phone calls to nearby recruits to see which ones are open to the prospects of being pulled down. In response to one call, I get the following report feedback, stating in part:

"It's going to take a miracle to get (insert player name here) to sign. Do you believe in miracles?"

This is the first time in 8-9 seasons that I've seen this one. Is this a humorous way of telling me I just blew $10 and not to bother spending more unless said player contacts me? Or do I interpret this as a pulldown is still possible since it isn't the outright rejection/phone slamming down/voice mail responses?

If it does mean a pulldown is still possible, does it mean the player will require more effort and investment than one that I get the simple "you're a backup" message from? Should I prepare to unleash the power of the dreaded "Double Weena"?

As always, thanks in advance for the responses.

When I started out, the first I-don't-know-how-many recruiting threads I looked into hoping to glean some advice all contained suggestions from Weena on bombarding pulldowns with a package consisting of something like 5 phone calls, 10 eval visits and a scholarship offer (often with instructions to repeat as necessary...). Shortly thereafter, I saw someone simply refer to it as "a Weena" and thought it was a moniker that deserved to stick.

hmm, interesting. i am totally on board with the 10 eval thing, but repeating it, i don't know - seems like a pretty big waste of money to me.

I generally start with 10 evals then go in groups of 3. If the scholarship email makes me think I'm not even close, then I'd do 5 more instead of 3

Lloyd:  What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me...ending up together?
Mary: Well...
Lloyd:  hit me with it....What are my chances?
Mary:  Not good.
Lloyd:  you mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary:  I'd say more like one out of a million.
Lloyd:  So, you're telling me there's a chance.... Yeah!

I've had recruits pass on me after 10 evals, and then drop 2 more and have them accept my hvs. I've also gone 10 and 10 more for them to accept the HVs. Then again, I've also wasted 30 evals (without getting a rebounding evaluation) and have the recruits still reject me. I think it has to do with my hairdo.

In the old days, didn't pulldowns work such that you just bombarded them with phone calls, something like 30, 50, to get them to come down?  I didn't have much experience with this, maybe used it once, I know that it's different now.

I also think it was more of a "secret" back then, where only a few coaches really knew how to do it.  I think seabreeze posted it in the forums, and people like tmac got very upset.

Maybe I am mis-remembering?

Now you have me thinking of Mary's butt when Lloyd lifts up her skirt.  Thanks duk.  I'm supposed to be recruiting here!
