During rehire, I have a coach who is listed as a BC, who is interested in rehire with a position change.  I have a BC, and would like to use this guy as a PC.  Can I hire him and assign him to that role?  The drop down box does not allow me to change his role on the rehire screen.

Need some advise.

Thanks.

His role is "assigned" at the time of hire, as the role is part of the offer.

Is there a way to change the assigned role before I check the rehire box?  Unless he 'was' the PC last season and wants to be BC this season?  Its year 1 of a new league thats what is throwing me I think.

He'll still have a "previous" coaching role.  Pull up his "card" and see what his previous experience was.  He likely was a PC last season (which didn't take place, i know...), and wants a promotion.

You can only hire them to roles on the drop down menu.   That's the answer.

Probably belongs in the suggestion box, but if my 1b coach from last year wants to return, but my 3rd base coach wants to search for greener pastures, I can't hire my 1st base coach at 3rd base w/o exposing him to the open market, ie I can't do it during the coach rehire position.  Same thing if I wanted to move my bullpen coach to pitching coach, but he wants to rehire at the same position.  Seems stupid to me.

If you have a coach that wants to return in a PC/HC role, you can promote him to any higher level as a PC/HC or BC.

For example, your HiA PC wants to return at the same level.  You can hire him as your AA PC (just use the dropdown menu) or even as HiA BC.

yeah, but what if you want to move your ML 1b coach to 3B, or your ML BU guy to ML PC.  You're only option right now is to sign them back to their old position if they're willing to come back, or let them hit the free agent coaching market, and attempt to sign them to your other spot from there.

I'll post it in suggestions and see if it gets any traction.  If a coach stays with you from season to season, you should be able to transfer them to another role.  Promote from within.  It sucks that my PC coach is leaving and this guy who wants to by BC would have been a perfect replacement with a pitch rating of 78,

I'll play devil's advocate here.

Suppose you had a ML PC who wanted to return and a AAA PC who also wanted to return.  Let's also say for the sake of argument that the AAA PC was better than the ML PC.

It makes sense to promote the AAA PC to take over the ML PC role, because he's better.  But does it make sense that you should have the "right" to transfer the old ML PC to bullpen coach?  That would generally be considered a demotion to a less prestigious role.

I hate when minor league coach has first and third base coach as options.

Just like you don't have the option of moving coaches to a lower level, maybe they limit the positions to "promotions" and don't give them option of assigning them to a lesser role.

Thats an option.  I am sure that WiS wouldn't want to throw together a sub of parameters as to when an AI coach would accept a different role.  Such as above, with the 'potential demotion', if a guys loyalty and patience are high enough, you could see him taking the demotion.  But your talking a whole nother engine to support coaching, something most owners don't want to deal with normally.

I'm not even worried about demoting a coach to a lesser role.  However, you should be able to offer last year's 1b coach, the 3b gig, or last year's 3b coach the bench gig if he's willing to come back as this year's current 3b coach.  I can promote a guy up a level w/n the minors, but you can't promote up in the majors, unless they specifically want the promotion to the new role.  Seems silly to me.
