3-pt shooting frequency change? Topic

Have any of the new changes affected 3-pt shooting frequency?

Here's my team:

I'm concerned about James Berkowitz, who basically only takes 3s, despite being a 0 frequency.  Last night, he took 13 despite being up against a +1, albeit a press +1.

In fact, his distro with starters last night was second highest, and there's no reason he took that many shots.  It seems like he is taking too many shots generally, but that is probably explained by him jacking up 3s.  Any thoughts?

That looks about right to me based on his attributes.  He actually took more threes last season as a percentage of his total shots.

96 perimeter, 1 lp.  Unless you minus him for some reason, he's going to take allot of three.  And hit them.  He's shooting 43% on his threes, so I don't see that it woudl be that much of a problem.

I agree isack.  I've seen many more threes being shot in all the worlds I'm in.  I have the same "issue."  I have a SG set at 0 who went 8-17 from the field, all 3-pointers.  Not unhappy with the result, but was expecting a little more balance in his shooting.

Donald Grubb

He's been set at 0 for his entire career, now going to be pushing him into the -'s obviously.  11 for 15 from inside the arc...  It's a small sample size, but it does look like there might have been a change.

since the new engine, I believe the shot selection is a function of the ratio between per and lp to some degree. I don't know what degree. If you have a guy with 96 per and 1 lp set at 0 he will take a ton of 3s. If he's hitting them, yay you. If % is a little low, go to -1...

Thanks guys.

I guess my bigger problem is that is seems to be throwing off the team's distro because he's just jacking up 3s, even though 0 means "within th flow of the offense" or something similar.  His distro shouldn't have produced anywhere near that many shots, but I understand why it did if he is just throwing up 3s.  Oh well, I'll just adjust, I suppose.

Well, if he is hitting that high of a percentage, why is this a problem?

Because some games he won't hit that high, and I would prefer my distro to be more closely followed.  When I give 60% of my distro to my bigs, and 20% to Berkowitz, I don't expect Berkowitz to take 16 3s at 0.  If he only makes 4, I would have preferred the ball be given to my 90+ lp big.

What do you have his distro set to?

In that game (starting lineup):

Crompton - 4
Berkowitz - 12
Mahoney - 6
Johnson - 10
Goodall - 14

No real distro to any backups except a backup big, McCoy, who had 12.

Berkowitz took 21 shots, 13 of them 3s.  He was on a 0 against a +1 press.  No one else took more than 9 shots.

I understand that, but at all time there was at least one other person with a distro o10, 12, or 14 in the game.  He took 21 shots.  The next highest was 9.

Hell, Johnson, Goodall, and Mccoy took 16 combined, and Berkowitz took the most FTs.

The distro is off, I don't even know if that can be debated.  But, I understand why it's off - because Berkowitz was jacking up 3s.  My problem, which some seem to agree with, is that he took too many 3s given that he's only set to 0 playing against a +1, even if it's a press.

It was over until someone asked, "why does it matter if he's shooting well?"  It matters because it throws off the distro, and if he's not shooting well that game, then I'll lose a game I would have otherwise won had my distro been followed.
