This may be a stupid question and I just have not stumbled on the clicky click to find out yet....but when looking at my own rosters and contemplating players that will soon hit FA themselves, how do I know if Player A who hits FA next year will be a Type A or Type B or nothing in free agency?

Is it predicated on OVR at the time they hit FA?  Season Stats?  Does anything tell me which type, if any, that they will be?  This would help in trying to determine to let them go, trade them if possible prior to FA or resign them.  If I can let a guy float and gain a draft pick should someone sign him that would be good to know...is there a way for me to check said player and determine which type he may hit FA as?

It's based on his OVR at the time he hits FA.  It's also based on where he falls within his grouping (different positions are grouped together for compensation ranking purposes).  I believe the top 20% in each group are Type A's, the next 20% are Type B's, and the other 60% are nothing.  So it really depends on the level of talent in your particular world.

regarding whether you can see whether your players will be Type A/Type B:

No, there is nowhere you can click to get this answer. You will only find out if the guy is a FA at rollover. You will get a correspondence telling you whether any of your departing FA are TypeA/B.

You still have the opportunity to re-sign your own FA after finding out (assuming they are willing to re-sign). Point being, there is a small amount of time between when you find out and you make your final decision to sign or let go (but not much time)

If you want to get an idea before rollover, look at the compensation free agents signed in the past offseason.  Compare the overall rating of Type A and Type B guys at similar positions to your player in question.  It will give you a rough idea of what to expect.  Of course, you need to account for any likely drop in ratings at rollover, specifically in the case of aging veterans.

I read somewhere that the previous two seasons' performances are taken into account. Had a below average reliever get type A status for no reason other than he had some saves for me. (and someone actually signed him lol) Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Ricky Aspromonte

It's OVR rating, not stats.

Your boy didn't have the stats to warrant compensation, but did have a high-enough OVR (apparently).

I would say that Aspromonte is average at worst

I checked all the type B's, and you're correct. They all had equal or worse OVRs.
