As the Fresh Prince once said...ok, here's the situation:

I'm in the playoffs in one of my worlds (5 game series) and the SIM has bypassed the pitcher I had slated for Game 5 because he wasn't at full strength, instead choosing a much less desirable option.

What can I do?  I tried removing him from the playoff roster, but that (predictably) didn't work.

Do I set my ace (the pitcher who got passed over) as LRA and set the pitch count of the unfortunate starter to the absolute minimum (40 pitches)?

Do I - sigh - release the current scheduled Game 5 starter and have my ace slotted as the next pitcher in line to start?  Would that even work?  (The guy I'd be releasing is 31 and has two years remaining on his deal.  He's an SP4 and after the season he had this year I probably wouldn't miss him at all).

Any ideas?  Helpful suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

What if you set your other 2 pitchers as SP1, SP2.  Then set your current starter as Tandem #1 and the guy that you really wanted to start as Tandem #2.  Set the Tandem #1 guy's max PC to 40.  Your much less desirable option will only get 40 pitches, then your other guy gets in.

First, your bad for not managing your rotation better.

But an alternative would be to set the scheduled starter as LRA with a TPC/MPC of 5/5, and set the guy you prefer to pitch also as a LRA with inning available as ANY.   Don't have any other pitchers eligible for ANY and hopefully, that should work for you.

Yes, obviously my bad.  Not sure that needed to be pointed out, but regardless, thanks for the advice.

1A and 1B.   40 with a pull of 5.   He might pitch well and, if he doesn't, he's out of the game pretty quickly.

You should be able to designate, not release, the less desirable starter.

Do it with revocable waivers if you like, and if someone does claim him you'll still have him. Fair warning though, he may not clear waivers before you have to set rosters for next round (if you win) so if you advance you might have to do without him.

I would also recommend that although it's not required, you should inform your opponent of your intentions.  I realize that there is no rule requirement for it, but if this is supposed to mimic the real thing, your opponent cannot set his lineup fairly - as he would if it was a gametime decision in real life.  I also realize there have been passionate debates about that subject before the pitch minimums were changed.  Since you cannot have a late "scratch" and your opponents cannot react, it seems fair to me that if you go through the routes suggested, that your opponent should be able to prepare fairly.

By making the moves above, especially the waiver suggestion, you are in essence circumventing what the 40-pitch rule was designed to prevent.  If Simmy ends up starting the pitcher you intend, how will your opponent be able to set his lineup?

i think panda's post should have a thread of it's own...

That's a very fair point. I've been having a discussing about it in that world's chat, which I'm assuming my opponent has seen, but just in case I have also sent my opponent a TC message as well. Thanks all.

So what happened?

I moved the current scheduled starter (Rivers) to LRA, adjusted his PC and pull rating, moved my desired starter (Chang) to LRA, set his inning availability to 'Any' and made sure he was the only one designated as such. Rivers pitched to one batter (struck him out...of course), then was replaced by Chang who threw the remainder of the game, allowing 2 ER on 3 hits.

And I lost. 2-1. Just happy that my inept lineup and not my rotation fail was the reason for the loss. That, and the opposing SP threw an absolute gem.
