Four 20 game winners Topic

Just curious whom else has built teams that produced four 20 game winners on a single season rotation?  I brought this up in a few of my worlds but havent found any others.  My Season 12 Vancouver Team in Field of Dreams and just recently my Season 18 Tampa team in Mr. October.

This season's Phillies had me thinking, perhaps challenging the only other Staff to do it the 1971 Baltimore  Orioles.

Yes, though I had to finagle my 4th 20 game winner by bringing him in relief around the 4th inning twice at the end of the year.  Of course, this was in a world that regularly finished about middle of the pack of the world rankings that I've seen.  I'd have to think it would be pretty darn tough in a top 25ish world.

I strongly doubt the Phils will get (4) 20 game winners this season.  the game has changed a ton since 1971, especially in the amount of innings/starts a pitching staff will pick up.  As great as Doc was last season, he still only picked up 21 wins.  Lee & Cole are capable, but both will fall short if I had to bet.  I don't see any way that Oswalt hits the 20 game win mark.

Chicago in Steinbrenner.   Of course, it has been suggested that he did it a bit underhandedly as it was a S1 world and his trade partners left after the season.

I don't think it's ever going to be done in MLB (again).  I suppose it would be much more common in HBD>

Just check MGraham.  We've only had two teams ever get two 20 game winners in a season.   Probably half the world has never had one 20 game winner.   I'm not overly surprised.  In order to get two, you just about have to win 90+ unless your staff is just ridiculously top heavy.   In order to get three, I'd guess 110.    Getting four probably requires a little rotation finagling at the end of the season and 115+.

Yeah I do like that in both cases for me they did it all in starting roles. Field of dreams was 30th in the latest world rankings and Mr October was 52nd. As for the MLB I agree, with the current structure of rotations it would be near impossible.

123 wins in FOD and 114 in Mr October

We will find out this season.  Am I saying the Phils will do it? No, but I think they can.  And I don't think any team since the 1971 O's has had four starters in one rotation with a legit shot at it...and an offense that can really do damage.

Not to mention the x-factor...Halladay, Lee, Hamels and Oswalt could all throw 7-8 IP/game, leaving less opportunity for the bullpen to blow it.

1.  There is no reasonable possibility of this in a 5-man rotation in MLB.
2.  Given the status of Utley's hip, the Phils look like a below-average offense to me.

No, the Phils cannot.   IP from the 4 Orioles:  292, 282, 282, 224.   Three of them got 37 or 38 starts.

Halladay exceed 224 IP five times, Hamels-1, Oswalt-3, Lee-1.   It's no surprise that none have ever gotten 37 starts.

In today's rotations, guys get 32-33 starts.  It will definitely take a little luck (and a vintage Lidge), but it's possible.  As I said, I don't think they'll do it, but it's more possible now than it ever has been in this era.  I wouldn't be shocked if they all hit 15...when was the last time a rotation had even 4 15-game winners?

It's only possible because they all should get 20 starts.    From a realistic viewpoint, it just isn't possible.  I bet Vegas would give 1000:1 odds.    Or more if they thought they could get enough action.

Fair enough.  But regardless, we still could end up seeing one of the Top 3 pitching foursomes of all time.  Especially if ol' Charlie skips Blanton every chance he gets.

I'll be surprised if all 4 hit 15 wins.  Injuries have a way of hitting pitchers that can't be predicted.
