I've heard that the more difficult a position a prospect plays, the more he'll develop his defensive ratings.  But has someone come up with a run-down of the how "difficult" each position is?  I'm assuming SS is 1st.  But what's 2nd, 3rd, etc.

My hierarchy: SS, CF, 2B, 3B, RF, LF, 1B.  Catcher is it's own animal.

The defensive spectrum that wis uses in SLB is SS,2B,CF,3B,RF,LF,1B.
An easy way I imagine to look at is, are the 'recs' for the position you have him playing higher than what his projections are? So, if you have one of those CF/2B guys, I'd assume playing him in CF would increase his FLD/RNG quicker, playing him at 2nd would increase his arm quicker.
Preferably you'd want to play him at a postion where all four rating are higher than his proj's.

I dunno about that.  This guy has the projections of a SS, but since I have too many of them in the low minors, I have him at CF.  His AA doesn't seem to be suffering.  It's actually jumping up 2 points at a time.

This is mine as well.  If I have a guy that the recommended position is 2b and they can play cf as well.  I override it and make the guy a cf.

Slightly off topic- is that the case now?  I know when HBD started it didn't matter what position a prospect played in the minors.  Thanks for any and all help on that point.

Mine, too.  The recs will typically put a lefty in CF and a righty at 2B (or even SS) given the same ratings.

Although, RF = arm, LF = glove.

You should always run a player through the recs, especially when first acquiring him, just as a "sanity check".  The recs have a pretty low floor on where a guy can play.  So if you have him slotted to play a position that the recs don't give to him as either a primary or secondary position, you should probably rethink what you're trying to do.  Or at least recognize and accept the consequences of playing him where you do.

Also, I've never seen the recs put a lefty at 2B, SS or 3B, no matter how good their ratings are.

The link I clicked is a 19 yr old. You could probably play him at first base and get a 1.8 jump every dev. cycle. But maybe you aren't getting a 2.3 jump?
