Is there a penalty for taking walkons? Topic

Probably a dumb post, but it's Friday afternoon and I'm pretty much tuned out of work for the week so I'm fooling around on the site.  (Don't even think about making a Rebecca Black joke in this thread or I will find you and I will stab you in the neck.)

I'm also waiting for a CS response to a thread I created on Wednesday regarding the huge number of walkons in Allen D3 and that got me thinking.

Out of boredom, I thought I would take and see to what extent these teams were having develop hindered by having such a huge number of walkons.  I'm not sure I saw any impact at all -- I don't know potentials but they seem to be developing ok, better than I would actually expect given that these are D3 SIM AI recruits.  I'm not sure about the IQ development but that might not be happening (?) -- it also might be too early in Allen to really see those impacts.

Anyway, I thought I would see what the official line on the walkon penalty is and I can't find anything about it in the FAQ or knowledgebase.  I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but ....

I believe it's forum fact that there is a walkon penalty in impacting development after you take a second walkon but it is barely seen in results.  Three or more shows impacts.

But considering I'm not seeing the impacts and I can't find anything documented about the walkon penalty, I figured I'd open it up to you guys and see what you think.

I do have to admit that I also have never taken a walkon so I'm not sure what I should be looking for either.  I might not be the best person to be making this observation.

I believe that if you have 2 or more walkons your players ratings improve slower.

Seriously guys?  No help?  (And no offense to mrhi because I appreciate the reply but even his response says he's not sure.)

I really do think that there is a penalty but I can't find it documented anywhere and looking at improvements for teams with 6+ walkons really isn't showing a penalty.

there is a penalty - how much of one is a bit unknown I believe. While debating with CS over an issue that resulted in me losing an ineligible player because the system got stuck and re-ran that phase (I happened to be online right after rollover and he was there - I set his practice (90 SH) and was good to go - when I got up in the morning he was gone!) they couldn't give me a player, but I got a small credit and in further discussion when I brought up the penalty to my development due to the walk-on I was told "Don't worry about that, one walk-on isn't going to noticeably hurt your development."

FWIW, that's the best I can offer...

Thanks for digging that up mrhi.  Of course, that guide is not written by WIS.

I guess what I'm hinting at is are we sure that there is *now* a penalty for taking walkons?

I've seen it mentioned in the forums enough times that I have always assumed it to be the case.  But I'm wondering if perhaps that was lost in the one of the version updates??? Like I said, I'm looking at the Allen D3 teams that have 5, 6, 7, 8 or even more walkons and I can't really identify a penalty at all.

And with the "rise" of 6 man rotations playing better than expected, I wonder if part of that success is because there isn't a penalty right now.

how does a team have more than 3 walk-ons? I've never seen more than that on a team-are you counting SimAI recruited guys as walk-ons?
