Essentially, my DIII team in IBA has no good defenders whatsoever, with our highest defender being 47. What are effective ways of playing GOOD defense and actually being able to stop or slow down a good team? 2-3? 3-2? anything else?

attack your opponent's best scorer with a big distro -2 offense and try to foul him out

Do you mean if they have one main, big scorer? What if there pretty balanced?

Sacrifice a calculator to the RNG gods and pray for a good roll.

if they have balanced scoring and you are weak defensively you'll have trouble. Try to out score them by attacking their weakest defenders. I don't have a ton of advice for actually making a bad defense good...sorry...

perhaps throw a little more into the IQ?  Unfortunately it looks like your team was switching from one def to another def which makes the IQ little lower than it probably could have been.  maybe try to get to B+ / A- IQ since you have 7/8 upperclassmen who are playing most of the min.  it won't help immediately but could help later in the season.  it is likely your Sr. are close to max out anyway on ratings.  and don't start the freshman center....

Yeah I was just kindve figuring that since my team is a bunch of horrible defenders, try and play a zone or fullcourt press for our speed. But should I just stick with man and get their iq's up? Should I start hayne or thomas?

I would probably start Hayne over Thomas since he brings some scoring.  that way you have some rebounding off the bench.  I try to think about what 5 players will be on the court.  Your starting center had some rebounding, so Hayne can be some offense in the front line.  Thomas will get a lot of PT off the bench anyway.

Unfortunately you can switch defense IQs that easy.  I would go with man-to-man since you have better IQ there overall.  It may expose you to some vulnerability but I still think it's better than going zone.  I play a zone at my DIII team but it seems to be an uphill battle.  M2M is better in most people's opinions and I think I agree.  Either way, your team has some work and will take a few seasons to get better.  I'd be happy to help advise if you have other questions - just site mail me.
